I was a vegetarian for 16 years before going gluten-free. During that time I realized how intertwined social get-togethers are with the consumption of food. During those years, I avoided picnics and backyard BBQs to avoid the snickers and weird looks of me asking for the host to cook my veggie dog or veggie burger.
I began eating meat again when I went gluten-free and although I can eat conventional hot dogs and hamburgers, I couldn’t eat the buns. And, until the last few years, I could not eat much of what else was being served due to so many products relying on wheat as a filler.
Fast forward to today and I am thrilled to be able to enjoy EVERYTHING you would find at a BBQ or picnic, even beer, thanks to Holidaily!
Gluten-free hamburger and hot dog buns were a hit or miss (mainly miss) for me prior to The Victoria’s Gluten-Free Kitchen. Most I tried were too much bread, too dry, too wet, too crumbly, too something! So, as many of us gluten-free do, I relied on lettuce wraps for my burgers and a fork for my hot dogs.
When I set out to create my hamburger and hot dog buns, I knew exactly what I wanted: the perfect burger/dog to bun ratio, firm enough to withstand a ton of toppings but not dry or crumbly, soft and pliable, and of course, a flavor reminiscent of what the buns I loved before going gluten-free.
I am so thrilled to share my bun creations with you! Now you can ditch the lettuce wrap and fork and enjoy backyard cookouts just like everyone else. Next time you are invited to a BBQ, pack your buns and rejoice!
My hot dog buns and hamburger buns are available at most Natural Grocers in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Iowa. If your store doesn’t stock them, download this request form or order direct from my website here.
